Your health impairment should not be a handicap for a stay abroad. Please take certain factors into account in your organisation, such as barrier-free accommodation and a barrier-free workplace, and find out about financial support from various sources.
People with disabilities - There are no bariiers to discover the world
The Erasmus+ programme, for example, can be used for financing, providing special funding for additional costs incurred. You can apply for special Erasmus+ funding at your home university or at the LEONARDO-BÜRO SACHSEN. It will cover part of your additional costs such as travel, barrier-free accommodation, additional accommodation for a necessary assistant, on-site assistance at the internship placement and medical care services. You can apply for this special funding if you have a degree of disability of at least 30 (to apply for a simple grant) or 50 (to apply for a long-term grant).
Make all necessary medical arrangements in good time. Information for a trip abroad with chronic illness/disability can be found on the pages of the Tropical Institute (only available in German). There you will also find a list of emergency services and associations for disabled people as well as written or telephone travel advice.
