There are no barriers to discovering the world!

Your disability should not be a barrier to your stay abroad. With the help of funding and determination, an internship or study abroad period is always possible. With that in mind, please take certain factors into account when you’re organizing your stay, such as a barrier-free accommodation and workplace and financial support from various sources.

Financial Support

For example, you can apply for the Erasmus+ programme at your home university or at LEONARDO-BÜRO SACHSEN, which provides special funding for additional costs associated with life abroad.

It will cover parts of additional costs such as travel, barrier-free accommodation, additional accommodation for an assistant (if one is required during your stay), on-site assistance at the internship organization, and medical care services. You can apply for this special funding if your degree of disability is at least 30 for a simple grant, or 50 for a long-term grant.

Medical Preparation

Make all necessary medical arrangements far in advance.

Information for a trip abroad with a chronic illness/disability can be found on the pages of the Tropical Institute (only available in German). There you will also find a list of emergency services and associations for disabled people as well relevant travel advice.
