SiiP Taiwan - Saxon international internship Program Taiwan

The Saxon international internship Programme Taiwan is an cooperative initiative of the Saxon university consortia Erasmus+ with various Taiwanese universities, that is coordinated by LeoSachsen. The programme offers internships in Taiwan to fully enrolled students  in Saxon universities. Cooperation parters vary in each call and the Taiwanese universities offer stipend programs to financially support the Saxon students whenever possible.

Who can participate

Internships in Taiwan:
Students of the participating Saxon universities carrying out a full-time study cycle of the following fields as required by the Taiwan internship companies:

  • Business Administration, Social Sciences or Psychology
  • Inengineering or Industrial Sciences
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical, Process Engineering
  • Environmental/ Agri-Food/ Civil/ Socio-Economics/ Health
  • Marketing, Communication, Intercultural Studies
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Engineering & Technology, Science & Mathematics

Internship period

Internships start at any time following the beginning of August 2025.

The duration of the internships vary and are specified by the internship host institutions.

Financial support

The internships are being financially supported by the TEEP stipend program plus private donations. The NTUST stipends are being transfered to the chosen participants by the NTUST:

first instalment Following the participants’ arrival in Taiwan the transfer of payment will be conducted by the OIA of the NTUST.

Please note: With regards to strict administrative processes, this transfer may take up to several weeks. Therefore, the selected participants must be able to live out of their own recources to cover their living expenses for the first two months.

You can expect to receive around EUR 700 per month for a stay of up to three months and EUR 800 as travel support. In addition, Erasmus+ scholarships can be awarded depending on the stay. The financial conditions can be found on the corresponding programme page on the LeoSachsen website.

Language requirements

Working language during the internships in Taiwanese companies will usually be English.
If the internship companies list additional Mandarin language skills and/or other foreign languages in the internship advertisements, the students must prove their fluency in this language along with the other application documents.

Please enquire at your Saxon universities about the English, Mandarin or other foreign language courses advertised so that you can use them to prepare for the internships if necessary.

Participating students may use their home universities’ offers of language courses to get well prepared in terms of working language fluency.

How to apply


The following application documents must be submitted in English language or including an English translation:

  • Online application
  • Proof of enrollment at a Saxon university (only in German language necessary)
  • Curriculum Vitae in English, (i.e. Europass CV, Examples)
  • Letter of motivation tailored to the selected company/companies (max. 2 pages)
  • Proof of Performance/ Transcript of Records/ Overview of grades of your current study cycle
  • if applicable: Bachelor degree, Vordiplom
  • Proof of English language skills at minimum level B+ according to CEFR (= Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) not older than 2 years
  • if applicable references of possible practical experience
  • if applicable and available Mandarain language skills
  • Proof of foreign language that has been named as working language by the host institution.

Selection criteria

The following criteria are being used for the assessment:

  • Completeness of the application documents
  • Enrollment at a participating Saxon university
  • English language skills at level B+
  • Further foreign language certificates, if applicable and necessary
  • Proof of a grade point average up to a maximum of 2.3 (German average)
  • High motivation with reference to the desired internship
  • Match between qualification provided by the applicant and requested in the internshhip advertisement

The letter of motivation should be tailored to the desired internship company and its offer. It should provide a comprehensible justification for the selected internship country Taiwan.
Up to two internship offers may be selected.

The pre-selection and matching process of the potential interns with the Taiwanese internship companies by the GTO Taipei and the Scientific Coordination Office of the Free State of Saxony in Taipei includes the conduct of interviews.
The OIA advises and supports the participants in the application process of visa. The transfer of money will be conducted, once the participants are in Taiwan and could settle, arranged for a city registration, setup of a bank account and provided their flight cost receipts to OIA.

The NTUST supervises the quality of the TEEP internships.

The Taiwanese companies define optional learning objectives and ensure professional support and social integration into the project teams in the course of the internship. They support the students in their search for accommodation and undertake to issue an internship certificate at the end of the internship.

Insurance and accommodation

Insurance requirements:
Participants are responsible for taking out international health insurance for the entire period of their stay in Taiwan (including travel times).
It is recommended to also take out liability insurance.

Accommodation:
Participants responsible for securing their accommodation. Accommodation in a student dormitory in Taiwan will not be possible.
If necessary, the host institutions can provide their own accommodation or offer a financial contribution to the rent.

The GTO Taipei supplies the participants with a guide on the local housing market to support the students’ search for accommodation.

Support and service

Service for students at TU Dresden:

  • Information on the program and the program conditions, unsolicited applications, the process and follow-up of internships
  • Intercultural advice
  • Support with visa and work permit applications
  • I.applicable awarding an Erasmus+ scholarship
  • Support in challenging situations (accidents, serious illnesses, changes to internship duration, social or intercultural problems)

The participating students can use their home universities‘ offers with regards to the subject related and linguistic preparation of their stay.

Social and intercultural support during the internships is provided by the host organizations in Taiwan. In case of issues and challenges, the participants can contact LEOSACHSEN for support. The office will try to be of help in cooperation with the host university in Taiwan.

Visa/ entry permit Taiwan

Depending on the program, the Taiwanese partner universities support the selected students in obtaining their necessary visas.
Apart from that, applicants should refer to the information provided by the Federal Foreign Office in order to assess whether it is possible for them to participate in the programs in Taiwan.

Data security regulations

By applying for SiiP Taiwan, you voluntarily provide us with your personal data to enable your participation in the programme. You can object to the collection of data associated with your registration at any time. In the case of an objection no further participation will be possible and funding entitlements do no longer apply.
The data collection is processed by LEONARDO-BÜRO SACHSEN exclusively for the purpose of the project implementation. Data can be forwarded to the partner institutions in Saxony and Taiwan to serve the purposes of matching with potential internship institutions and report requirements. Your data will be processed at the partner universities as well as at the internship institutions under their own responsibility with regards to the compliance with data protection regulations applicable in Taiwan.

Eine Datenübermittlung an Dritte außerhalb der Projektpartnerschaft erfolgt nicht bzw. nur nach vorheriger Einholung Ihres schriftlichen Einverständnisses. Nach der Durchführung des Projektes und der Evaluierung der Ergebnisse werden die erhobenen und verarbeiteten personenbezogenen Daten beim LEONARDO-BÜRO SACHSEN max. nach 5 Jahren gelöscht. Complaints procedure

Every participant in the SiiP Taiwan can submit a written complaint (usually by e-mail) to report deficiencies in the preparation and implementation of the application procedures. The first point of contact would be Katharina Gabel-Stransky via international.leosachsen@tu-dresden.de

Duty to provide information


Participants are to keep LeoSachsen updated in the follwing fields of information, that are required for the implementation of the project and their internship abroad:

  • Proof of visa/ work permit (depending on the regulations in the partner country) before the start of the internship
  • Address at the internship location
  • Change of address at the place of study and home

Let us know immediately in the case of issues, that

  • could jeopardize the successful completion of the internship or
  • lead to premature termination of the internship phase (illness, objective events in the home country, social or intercultural problems, etc.),

Students who successfully applied for an Erasmus+ scholarship at the LeoSachsen need to keep to the programme regulations as well.

Evaluation and academic recognition


The host institutions are required to issue a “qualified internship certificate” at the end of the internship. This document can be used to strengthen the students’ applications, once the students start their career.
For compulsory internships, the academic recognition follows the specific regulations of the respective faculty at TU Dresden or the respective Saxon university. Please contact your supervising Professor or the relevant office prior to signing your internship contract.
With regards to voluntary internships, there is an option to have the experience outlined in the Diploma Supplement. Again, please contact the supervising professorship or the relevant study office for more information.

Closing document

Information on the final documents will be posted shortly. LeoSachsen will provide a template for an internship report and an intercultural report here in due time. With your consent, these reports will be published on a separate website to encourage other students.
