ScaDS.AI (Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) Dresden/Leipzig is a center for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data with locations in Dresden and Leipzig. It is one of the five new AI centers in Germany funded under the federal government’s AI strategy by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Free State of Saxony. It is established as a permanent research facility at both locations with strong connections to the local universities: the TUD Dresden University of Technology and the Leipzig University.

Mentor: Dr. Siavash Ghiasvand

Departments and personnel you will work with:
The internship will take place at the ScaDS.AI federal AI center, and you will work in close collaboration with the Living Lab team, a group of experts focused on developing and testing innovative AI solutions in real-world settings. Within this dynamic environment, you will have the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the development of reinforcement learning algorithms for robot control.

Expected tasks and responsibilities:
Literature Review: Research existing reinforcement learning and robotics studies. Algorithm Selection: Select a reinforcement learning algorithm for robot control. Implementation: Implement the algorithm using Python programming language and libraries. Training, Testing and Evaluation: Train and test the algorithm in various scenarios. Documentation and Reporting: Document the project’s progress and prepare a final report.

Fields of expertise and skills you will learn:
Basics of Reinforcement Learning and robotics, Problem-solving and debugging, Research and documentation, Programming skills.

Your field of studies:

Computer Science / Engineering as main subject, ideally with a focus on machine learning / AI and/or a minor in Data Analysis.

  • Master students
  • English Level B2

Software Applications / Internet Tools:

  • Familiar with Python programming language

Further qualifications, experiences, and/or skills:

  • Teamwork and clear communication

Please, note:
Studying computer science, mentioned above is not a necessity. Interested candidates who are interested in robotics and AI, and have a good command of Python programming language are welcomed, too.
