Internship in Milan, Italy
Aylin, Fashion-Management
My experience with finding the internship placement and the application
The search for the internship placement took place as part of an excursion organized by my university, Campus M University in Nuremberg, to Milan. During the trip, we visited several institutions, including the Ferrari Fashion School. I had already prepared my application documents and was able to hand them in personally at the institution. A few weeks later, I received a phone call from Silvia Caramella offering me an internship position.
The application process was therefore very direct and practice-oriented. I particularly appreciated the personal contact and the quick and clear feedback from the internship institution.
My experience with accommodation and travel
I found my accommodation through an online platform, and the process was overall uncomplicated and quick. I currently live in an apartment with three separate rooms and shared spaces such as the kitchen and living room. At the moment, only two of us live in the apartment, which makes the living situation very pleasant.
Another positive aspect is the proximity to my workplace, which is only about a five-minute walk away. Overall, the search for accommodation was stress-free and satisfactory, just like the journey to Milan.
My tip:
Take time to settle in, remain open to new experiences and don't let the initial language barrier unsettle you.
My experience during the internship
I have been doing my internship for about 15 days now and have had very positive experiences so far. The working environment is friendly and open, and I was well integrated into the workflows. All employees are helpful and supportive.
One challenge is working in a foreign language every day, which can be exhausting at first. At the same time, I see this as a valuable learning opportunity. Overall, the internship is going very well and meets my expectations.
My experience with everyday life and free time on site
At the beginning, there was an adjustment period, especially when it came to using public transportation. However, after a short time it became easy to find my way around, and daily life became well organized.
Milan offers numerous opportunities for leisure activities, cultural events, and social activities. It is also very easy to meet new people and get to know individuals from different countries. Life there is varied and enriching.
My conclusion & tips
So far, my overall conclusion is very positive. I am glad that I decided to do this internship abroad. The professional experience, the international environment, and the opportunity for personal development are especially valuable.
The biggest challenge is adapting to the language, daily life, and new structures at the beginning. I recommend that future participants give themselves enough time to adjust and approach new situations with openness and patience.
