My experiences with the… internship

My internship experience was entirely positive. I was welcomed so openly and warmly into the small team that I already felt, on my very first day, as though I had been part of it for months.

My colleagues shared their expertise with me and allowed me to participate in every aspect of their diverse work. As a result, my internship enabled me not only to discover fascinating parts of Vienna but also to visit Salzburg, Linz, and St. Pölten.

When carrying out tasks, I was given a great deal of freedom to contribute my own ideas, and our collaboration always took place on equal footing. This further strengthened my initiative, independence, and sense of responsibility.

My experiences with… everyday life and leisure on site

Vienna has an incredible amount to offer in terms of leisure and culture. I cycled around the Danube Island (the Vienna Lines rental bicycles are extremely affordable), visited many excellent museums and exhibitions (the Federal Museums Card is absolutely worth it!), admired the impressive architecture, often took walks along the Danube Canal, read good books in the beautiful parks and cafés, and even experienced a VR tour at the Danube Tower. Most importantly, however, I met many new people.

Thanks to my wonderful colleagues, I had the opportunity to see many cities. In my free time, I also visited Graz and Bratislava. Naturally, my daily routine was largely structured around the internship. However, because my internship institution was centrally located in Vienna’s 1st district, I often had the opportunity to visit famous sights immediately after work.

My Conclusion & Tips

I had a wonderful time in Vienna. During those two exciting months, I gained a wealth of new experiences and perspectives. I was able to gain valuable insights into the incredibly important work of civic and political education, took away fresh inspiration from many interesting conversations and discussions, and grew enormously—both professionally and, above all, personally.

At the beginning, the situation felt very unfamiliar because, apart from my colleagues, I did not know anyone in the city. Looking back, however, that was precisely what gave me the freedom to get to know myself on an entirely new level. In addition to regular visits from friends from Germany, Vienna also offers many initiatives through which it is easy to meet new people and build connections.

It is absolutely worth stepping outside your comfort zone! You discover yourself in new ways and gain valuable experiences that ultimately help you grow beyond your own expectations. 🙂
