Hands-on research training on experimental methods for solid state science

Introduction to IFW:

The Institute for Solid State Research is one of five institutes constituting the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden). The IFW Dresden is financed by the German and the Saxonian state in equal parts and employs roughly 500 people. Its mission is to conduct fundamental and application-oriented research, with focus on materials and phenomena that are promising for technological applications. At the Institute for Solid State Research of IFW Dresden we host under one roof the synthesis and crystal growth of novel quantum and nano-materials, a wide portfolio of experimental techniques that helps us understand their physical properties, and the exploration of their potential applications in fields from electronics to medicine. An important aspect of our work is the continuous improvement and development of experimental techniques. Tasks and Responsibilities:

During this internship, the student will carry out an independent research project on a topical subject that will involve training in a state-of-the art experimental technique and applying it to study a material of interest. The exact topic of the research project will be determined on the basis of a personal interview at the end of the selection process, in agreement with the student and depending on their interests, skills and experience.
